Our work at Te Kairanga Winery included a total re-fit of the existing colonial style cottage; turning it from a main tasting room, office and storage space into a larger tasting area including a club room for private tastings.
We were asked to create a fresh and inviting, contemporary space while still incorporating existing historical features and taking into consideration the inherent nature of the building.
To inject more light and encourage air circulation on the hot summer days, double French doors were installed, and all the totara panelled walls were painted to create a fresher feel. Contemporary but vintage style French industrial lighting was used together with rowlocks (the owners branding for Wharekauhau Lodge and the Wharekauhau Wine and Food Society) to add character and quirkiness to the space. Other aspects included designing a wine bottle display, customised textile design for window treatments and lampshades, as well as specification and supply of a range of furniture and work with the company branding to create a cohesive, professional environment for the public to enjoy.
